ENDOSYS Equipment For Hand Held Instruments
ENDOSYS hand held instruments are marketed under the brand name of Geofix. Geofix is the GOLD standard today when it comes to hand held instruments. This is because of its unique design that makes it the most reliable instrument in the market today and all this at a very reasonable price. Geofix instruments are crafted keeping in mind the following features that make a good hand held instrument:
- Maneuverability
- Sharpness
- Precision
- Strength
- Safety
Geofix instruments incorporate maneuverability by the virtue of various shapes designed specifically for the different zones of menisci. We offer innumerable shapes and profiles like Scoops, Duckbills, Ducklings, Narrowline, Rotary Punches with 90deg bites, Back Biters, Meniscal Elevators etc. These varying profiles and shapes make it possible for surgeons to access most-hard-to reach areas of menisci. Sharpness and Precision are maintained by taking extra care while manufacturing these instruments. In fact even the machines that manufacture these instruments are designed by research personnel of our own company. This ensures complete control over the quality of instruments. This, in turn, means that instruments turn out to be extra sharp and precise upto their specifications regarding the bite width. For strength, Geofix instruments have unique design that has single piece outer shaft. There is no wielding or soldering of any kind on these shafts that makes it strong to resist the forces required to resect the menisci. Finally, safety is ensured by the patented design of Geofix that uses pinless hinge for their distal tips. Ordinary hand held instruments use hinges that use pins. This usually forms the weakest link that tends to make the distal tip very fragile. When biting into harder parts of menisci, the pin cannot take the extra force and breaks. If this happens, it becomes extremely hazardous for the patient because it means foreign body in the joint. If not, the surgeon has to be extra careful to remove this piece out. Either way, it is not safe for the patient. Geofix instruments overcome this problem by having pins at their proximal ends which ensures that even in the rare chance of breakage, the instrument snaps outside the joint. This leaves a very long shaft outside the joint with the tip attached to it. It can be easily pulled out. Apart from the features required for a good hand held instrument, Geofix has also incorporated maximum surgeon comfort by the means of different types of handles. We have three different types of handles that go with various instruments. One handle is the conventional looped handle that allows the surgeon to grip the instrument using thumb and the index finger. They are simply called Geofix instruments. Another type of handle has been made more ergonomic by permitting the surgeon to grip the instrument using a thumb and all the four fingers. This type of instruments are called Geofix Pro instruments. Finally, some of the punches that are rotary in action feature Cigar type of handle.
As mentioned earlier in this unit, Geofix has hand held instruments that are zone specific. It is essential to know at the tip of your tongue, which are the basic instruments for each of the zones. Typically, a most basic set of instruments would consist of following instruments:
| Zone |
Instrument |
| Anterior Horn of Meniscus |
90deg Rotary Punches, Left & Right |
| Mid-Segment of Meniscus |
Duckbill Punches |
| Posterior Horn of Meniscus |
Narrowline Punches |
