Video Signals
Video signal that is fed to monitor consists of two parts. One is called Luminance and the other is called Chrominance. These signals are always in relation to a common basis. This common basis is provided by the ground terminal against which all the potentials are understood. Of the two, 90% of the information is carried in the Luminance signal. It controls outlines of structures in the image, brightness of the image, contrast of the image and Gain function. The Chrominance signal only adds color to the structures in the image. Thus, it is evident that basic image is formed only by the Luminance signal and Chrominance signal only adds aesthetic value to it. This aesthetic value of the image should not be undermined as differentiation in colours helps the surgeon identify and differentiate between the various organs under study.
